Tammet Mesh Combines Safety with Striking Design
“At The Folks Hotel Konepaja, Tammet’s stainless steel mesh serves as both a staircase safety barrier and a distinctive design feature. The solution complements the industrial architecture of the former workshop while supporting the hotel’s modern aesthetic.”
Built within Helsinki’s historic Konepaja district, The Folks Hotel Konepaja is an example of how industrial heritage buildings can be given a new purpose. The former workshop has been transformed into a modern hotel while preserving the character, atmosphere, and industrial aesthetic that define the building’s identity.
In the hotel’s striking staircase, even the smallest details play an important role. Tammet supplied a stainless-steel mesh solution installed in the center of the staircase. The mesh serves both as a protective safety barrier and as an architectural feature, enhancing the openness of the space while complementing its overall design.
The project utilized Tammet metal mesh type serie B 2/3/25/14. The mesh was carefully integrated into the staircase structure, allowing it to blend naturally with the hotel’s industrial-inspired interior. The timeless appearance and durability of stainless steel make it an ideal material for environments where both safety and visual appeal are essential.
Tammet also supplied all mounting hardware required for the installation. The custom-designed fastening solutions ensure a secure, durable, and refined finish, supporting both the practical and aesthetic goals of the project.
The Folks Hotel Konepaja demonstrates how architectural mesh can be much more than a structural solution. At its best, it becomes part of a building’s story—bringing together safety, architecture, and interior design into a seamless and cohesive whole.
