Helping Safeguard the Future of Groundwater
Clean groundwater is one of the most important natural resources in the Raasepori region — and an essential part of the area’s vitality and future.
Tammet actively participates in the joint groundwater monitoring program in Raasepori, where groundwater quality, water levels, and potential environmental impacts are monitored in cooperation with local authorities, the water utility, and other regional stakeholders.
According to the 2025 joint monitoring report, groundwater conditions remained generally stable, including at Tammet’s production site in Björknäs.
Groundwater levels stayed largely in line with previous years, and no significant changes were observed in the overall water quality. The results highlight the importance of long-term monitoring and responsible operating practices in groundwater areas.
However, elevated chloride levels and increased electrical conductivity were detected in some locations, particularly in the wells closest to the Karjaa – Hanko main road. These changes are believed to be linked, among other factors, to the construction of a nearby railway underpass and the resulting increased exposure to road salt.
Groundwater monitoring is essential because it helps identify potential changes at an early stage. Regular monitoring improves understanding of local groundwater conditions and supports environmentally sustainable operations over the long term.
For Tammet, responsibility means concrete actions and long-term cooperation for the benefit of the environment. Joint monitoring is one way to help ensure that valuable groundwater areas remain in good condition for future generations.
